PATCH TESTING GUIDE
We've created a helpful blog post to give you our guidelines for patch testing. First of all, a patch test is a form of allergy testing. It can be used to check whether there is a delayed hypersensitivity in the form of an allergy to certain substances known as allergens.
Patch testing for eyelash lift, eyebrow lift, eyelash lengthening and tinting is a must. An allergy or sensitivity is unfortunately something that develops over time, so allergies and sensitivities are more likely to develop after customers have been exposed to the product. This means that a client who has had an eyelash lift or tint for some time is more prone to have a reaction than a new client who has never had such a treatment. It is therefore important to carry out a patch test before the treatments.
THE BEGINNING
- Carry out a detailed consultation with your customer
- Always note the patch test date
- Note where you applied the products
- Apply a small amount of the product to be used on the wrists or inside of the elbow and let it dry (the color must be mixed beforehand).
- Always have the customer sign that they did the patch test.
- When your clients return for treatment, make sure to re-sign the form and update the patch test results. Any reaction is likely to occur within 24-48 hours. Make sure the customer knows that the patch test must remain on the patch for 24 hours; if there is no reaction, it can be washed off. However, if a reaction occurs, your client should let you know and see a doctor. If there are signs of redness, itching or swelling, the treatment must not be carried out.
- We recommend performing a new patch test every 6 months.
We hope we were able to address your concerns about the patch test.
